LIGHT (and variant surname ancestors & allied families)
Once circulated postcards of this image included some with the little “outhouse” on the left removed (long before Photoshop) — surely suggesting it was indeed an outhouse! This may be the same photo included in LCHS’ Embich photograph album.
Croll, Philip Columbus. Ancient and Historic Landmarks in the Lebanon Valley, “A Walk About Steitztown” pp. 98–103. Philadelphia: Lutheran Publication Society, 1895. Copy consulted at the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
circa 1895, from J. Jacob Embich Photograph Album, PA-001, Lebanon County Historical Society Collection. Creator: Embich, J. Jacob (1846-1921).
Light’s Fort, aka the “Old Fort”, ~1895. Appears to be the same photo that was published in Croll’s “A Walk About Steitztown” without photographer credit. Daniel Light (1818-1865, great grandson of Johannes Leicht, builder of the Fort) built the brick house alongside some 80 years later. It was razed in October of 2016.
